A couple of months ago I asked for a raise, arguing that I had outgrown my position at the company. N had left and I was taking the senior position, including senior responsibilities; it seemed only natural to be paid accordingly. That and I recently discovered the receptionist was making more than me.
I was denied my request and told to "be patient." Instead, I received a second monitor for presumably double the work.
So you can see why I did not laugh when I saw this morning's Dilbert cartoon:

That is wrong. Wrong, wrong, WRONG.
I say hock both monitors on eBay and ask for another monitor. Maybe then you'll get a raise?
that both sucks and is funny!
Cute sheep. And, honestly, that makes absolutely NO sense. NONE. But I can relate slightly because it sounds like something that would happen here at my awesome place of employment. Backwards I tell ya, BACKWARDS.
What the hell? Who needs two monitors? And how much did that thing cost? I mean, they could have given you that amount as a small bonus, instead of completely demeaning you by giving you something you don't even freaking NEED. For real's... :o(
That's when you put your foot down and you don't ask for a raise...you demand a raise. I say start looking elsewhere - and find a place that will pay you what your worth.
Oh mate. Thats crap! I have a shite work story for you. Today I was emailed a funding budget that had my salary details on it as well as my colleagues...
our salaries are paid from a private funder as we are a small charity - but he gets paid more than me; for doing the same job and now the whole team knows it.
big hugs x
That is too funny. I'm in the same position... waiting for that raise *fingers crossed*. I do project manager work for an intern's salary. Joy! I should get myself another monitor....
Sorry...but couldn't help but crack a smile....
Hopefully that raise will come soon!
ya know, I have 2 monitors at work too...but yours are cooler than mine LOL.
NO WAY! That sucks. . .
make it known that you are being head hunted by another company and are strongly considering leaving.
My boyfriend sent me the same link - he wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry because the same thing happened to him BUT he had to bring in his own monitor from home!
Um, the receptionist is making more than you?! Not okay.
umn. why does anyone need two monitors? what can you do on two that you can't do on one? or am I missing the point?
